In addition, the purpose of this meeting will be to chart out a strategy to engage the Sikh community to the largest PR campaign in this country.   Despite our long presence and success in America, most Americans are unaware of who Sikhs are and the contributions that Sikhs have made to this country in the last 200 years.   Some of us are leading major corporations and have been creating jobs and wealth for years in this country. We are also pioneers in many fields and regularly make a difference in our communities. However, we've never told our story to the American people. Despite the efforts that the Sikh community has made since 9/11 in this country, we are still associated with negative perceptions and that has to change. We need a massive, well-coordinated, strategically designed campaign to put Sikhs in the most positive light possible. This proactive campaign will display Sikhs as vital members of American society. It will pave the way for awareness of our community members, and will lay the groundwork for our next generation to succeed and become leaders in America. This task is beyond any one organization or any individual. We have to engage ourselves with the experts who have mastered their art in this field.This is a real opportunity to organize the community and fundamentally change the perceptions of Sikhs in America. This strategy session with Hillary Clinton's former Chief Strategist and top Obama campaign and AKPD representative is scheduled for Saturday, August 16th at University of Maryland at Shady Grove Conference Center, 9630 Gudelsky Drive, Rockville, MD 20850. The meeting will start at 10:30 AM and will conclude at 4.30 PM.   The delegates from all over the USA probably will arrive a day earlier and a session for meet and greet has been scheduled at Guru Gobind Singh Foundation Gurdwara Sahib in Rockville, MD, which is blocks away from the meeting venue.  The evening session on August 15th at GGSF will be from 5.30 PM - 7.30 PM. This will be followed by Diwan and langar.  Please  RSVP by August 11th to Gurwin Ahuja the Executive Director of the campaign so that you can join this historic and critical meeting. Persistence and the Mule In The Well Posted: 07 Aug 2014 12:43 PM PDT This is a story about the persistence of an old mule. Sometimes when things look hopeless, it is shear persistence that can save the day. In fact, of all the qualities that can see you through tough times, persistence might be unmatched. Here's the story… There was a farmer who owned an old mule and one day that mule fell into a dried out, abandoned water well. After assessing the situation carefully, the farmer reluctantly concluded that neither the mule nor the well was worth saving. He wasn't happy about it, but what else could he do? For the mule, the future's not looking very hopeful So, the farmer called his neighbors together and enlisted them to help him bury the old mule right there in the well and put him out of his misery. Initially the old mule was frantic, but as the dirt kept hitting his back, something happened. It dawned on the mule that every time a shovel load landed on his back, he should shake it off and step up! And that's exactly what he did. Blow after blow that old mule would shake off the dirt and step up…shake it off and step up. Persistence might just save the day! No matter how painful the blows or how distressing the situation, the old mule fought the urge to panic and just kept right on shaking off the dirt and stepping up! It took awhile, but eventually his persistence began to pay of because with each step he was moving up ever so slightly. Before long, the old mule, battered and exhausted, stepped triumphantly through the mouth of that well. What seemed like it would bury him actually helped him…all because of how he demonstrated persistence in the face of adversity. When things start to look hopeless, choose persistence! Such is life. If we face our problems and respond to them positively, refusing to surrender to panic, bitterness, or self-pity, the adversities that come along to bury us usually possess the potential to benefit us, but it's only through persistence that we can realize that potential. "Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
